With winter coming sooner than you care to admit, it’s time to start thinking about your cold season escape plan before the masses book out all the best hotels and attractions. While many families you know will be flooding into the Orlando area for reasons that are fairly obvious, there is more to Florida than the home of Mickey Mouse.

Another spot in America’s Sunshine State that is well-suited to families is the Tampa Bay area. With this city facing the warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and many fabulous beaches within easy reach of downtown, it is a great place to base yourself during your winter getaway.

Tampa attractions also keep pace with their competitors further south and east, with a wide variety of amusement options at your disposal. Wondering which ones are worth your valuable time on your Tampa family vacation? The following attractions will deliver the most excitement for the time you spend enjoying them…

1) Busch Gardens

Of all the attractions that your clan could check out in the Tampa Bay area, Busch Gardens is the closest thing there is to a sure bet. Being a park themed after the animals of Africa, there are many exhibits showing off creatures such as tigers, crocodiles, elephants and more, but there are also many adrenaline pumping roller coasters and rides that will satisfy the action junkies in your crew.

2) Clearwater Marine Aquarium

If you and your family would rather get to know the creatures that live in the ocean off Tampa than view animals from faraway lands, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, which takes in marine animals that have suffered injuries, will do an excellent job getting you acquainted with them.

For those who are hesitant in embracing facilities such as this one, they only keep animals whose injuries prevent them from returning to the wild. All others are released after completing a rehabilitation program. Animals that can be found here include dolphins, sharks, stingrays, and sea turtles, among many other species.

3) Museum of Science & Industry

Are your kids fanatical about science? If so, dropping by the Museum of Science and Industry is an excellent way to make the most of a gray rainy day in Tampa Bay. Subjects from space exploration to the science behind natural disasters are covered in this amazing museum.

Got someone in your party that doesn’t quite get the same buzz from science that the others do? A zipline and ropes courses are also situated at this museum, allowing them to dose up on adrenaline while the others are getting their science on!
